  1. I learned that DHA is kept in the bloodstream more commonly than it remains in the brain and certain genes are more prevalent in either.
Q: Does DHA have hydrophilic properties that cause it to remain in the bloodstream rather than the brain?

  2. In 13 month mice APOE4 levels had decreased results.

What are the intake sources of APOE?

  3. Statement: Mice with the gene ApoE2 have the greatest brain uptake of DHA, while mice with the gene ApoE4 have the lowest brain uptake of DHA.

Question: How does the ApoE4 gene affect how our brain uptakes DHA?

  4. Fact: In mice in which APOE4 was inserted into their brain, the DHA uptake was significantly decreased

Question: Why did the DHA uptake of mice with APOE3 change so dramatically from 4 months to 13 months?

  5. ApoE4 produces inferior transport proteins that take a lesser concentration of DHA across the blood-brain barrier.

Does this mean that increasing the concentration of DHA through supplementation won't increase amount of DHA in the brain in those with the ApoE4 gene.

  6. The effects of DHA are more prominent on a brain with APOE4 gene because the brain is already worse off cognitively.

I would like to do more research on the affects of APOE4 with you because it seems like our research crosses a lot. I guess my question would have to do with looking more and more into APOE4 and its effects with DHA.

  7. What I learned: People with APOE4 showed greater response to the Omega-3 treatment than those with APOE 2 or 3.

Question I still have: How much more evidence would be needed to prove the correlation between Omega-3's and reaction time?
